The Alpaca

Today Hayli, Hana, and I went to the Alpaca Farm. When we got out of the car, Hayli was very afraid of the large animals. "No mama... scared. Don't want it!" Well, that didn't last long...

Mr. Bruce, the owner, is really nice and showed us the place. Mr. Bruce introduced the kids to the most recent addition to his alpaca farm. Hayli took a lot of turns petting the sweet baby.

Mr. Bruce also has a camel, named Sara, on his farm!
There was also a horsie!
Needless-to-say, Hayli did NOT want to go home!!!

Hana's 2 Month Appointment

Today was Hana's 2 month doctor appointment. Hana was asleep when we arrived to the appointment. I must mention that we were on time (a rarity now). First, Hana was weighed and measure. She weighed 11 pounds 10 ounces (5.25 kg) and measured 23 inches (58.4 cm) long. She is now in the 75th percentile (up from the 50th percentile at her 1 month doctor appointment) for both her height and weight. Hana's doctor, Dr. Settles, examined Hana, and was happy with Hana's progression both physically and mentally. Dr. Settles mentioned that Hana does have a belly button (or umbilical cord) hernia. I just thought it was an outie belly button. If it doesn't fix itself, surgery is required. We will just have to watch it, and hopefully it will fix itself. I took some pictures of Hana's hernia after we got home just to show what it looks like now.The nurse came in and gave Hana her one oral immunization and her three "cocktail" shots. Hana cried, and turned beat red, until the nurse was done administering the shots. After a minute of the nurse holding her, Hana settled down and relaxed. Hana's legs are still sore and we are giving her pain reliever. Hana is a tough cookie, and survived her first shot appointment with flying colors!

Hana is 2 Months Old!

Today Hana is officially two months old. I can't believe how time is flying by us! Dada and I measured Hana at 22.5 inches (57 cm) and weighing 11 pounds 9.2 ounces (5.25 kg) tonight. We will see what the doctor says on Tuesday! Hana moves her head from one side to the other when she is on her belly now. She LOVES to eat and sleep! (A girl after my own heart!) Hana is a calm baby most of the time. I look forward to when I can sit her somewhere and she can entertain herself for a minute or two. Love you baby girl!

Froggies

Every week Hayli learns something new in her froggies swim class. Each lesson leaves me tired and amazed. Hayli really is a great swimmer! Maybe one day she will be an Olympian swimmer! What can I say? I dream big for myself and husband... why wouldn't I dream big for my kids?

Open Gym

Keeping Hayli busy is exhausting, but thank goodness for Open Gym!!!

El Paso Zoo

Today we dropped Hana off at Oma's house and went to the zoo with Hayli, mainly because Clifford the Big Red Dog was going to be there. We met up with Hayli's friend Tristan and his family. When we got to the zoo, we asked about the Clifford event, but nobody knew what we were talking about. I told Conrad that I knew I wasn't crazy because PBS had been advertising this event for weeks... We decided that we drove all that way, we were going to enjoy the zoo nonetheless. Some of the animals were not such a hit with Hayli. She really did not like the big animals like the lions, sea lions, and elephants... There were some good ones though, like the meerkats. The meerkats just had babies on the 23rd of March, so they were in a special observation cage.
We ate lunch with the monkeys... Charles (Tristan's dad) was a bird droppings victim. I guess that is the risk you take when you eat lunch under a tree -- especially at the zoo!
Hayli really liked the tortoises and the sand cats. She named the tortoise Tuck, because Tuck is the turtle on Wonder Pets. Hayli thought that the sand cats were "really cute".
Hayli's least favorite part? Why, Clifford the Big Red Dog of course! LOL!!! Yes, he was there afterall, but Hayli didn't want anything to do with him! Poor Clifford!!!

Open Gym

This morning we went to open gym. I know that the day is coming when Hayli asks for her own trapoline... for that she will have to ask Grandpa. He bought Tante and me our trampoline when we were little. =0)

Open Night @ Kindermusik

Today we went to the open night for Kindermusik. It was different than I thought it was going to be. Instead of dividing us up into ages (since it was for newborns to 9 year olds), they just rotated us into different stations. It was okay though. Hayli seemed to enjoy herself! Hayli really got into the exercises (must take after Mamo!).Then Hayli was excited to practice on some instruments... Will she play like Grandpa, Daddy, or Tante? We can always hope!
We had a great time tonight!

Bring a Friend Week

Today was bring a friend week at swim class. Hayli invited her good friend Tristan. Tristan's mom has been interested in signing Tristan up for swim classes, and this was a good opportunity for her to see him in action!

It is sad that we are almost done with the term, and we won't be signing up for the summer term. Since the weather is getting nicer, we plan on using Oma's and Opa's pool on Saturday mornings. Hopefully we will get our lessons in each week!

Unidad Park

Unidad Park is quickly becoming our favorite park. The structures are wood, so they don't get hot from the sun, and there are a ton of things for Hayli to do there! We are still exploring all of its possibilities!

Poor Baby

Last night Hayli complained that it hurt for her to use the bathroom. Not wanting this to become a kidney infection, I insisted she go to the doctor. What I didn't realize, when she would not pee in the cup, was that the nurse would have to insert a catheter to obtain a urine sample (OUCHIE)! Needless-to-say, this was not a great experience for any of us, including the nurse that was on the receiving end of Hayli's feet! The sample was taken, and Hayli was understandably upset. The only thing that calmed her down was giving her the blue lollipop she had her eye on since she walked into the office! Whew, at least it was an easy solution to calm her back down. Poor baby!

Bobble Head

Hana is still strengthening her neck muscles! Pretty impressive!

Mother's Day

I was sick Mother's Day, but was able to muster the energy to go to Oma's and Opa's house for a little Mother's Day BBQ. Hayli wanted to get out of the house and go somewhere. At least at Oma's house I could relax while Hayli ran through the house! LOL!

Hayli helped Oma cook dinner. She is such a good little helper!

Train Days

Today we went to train days here in town. Hayli loves trains. Hayli had a lot of fun at the train depot.

Since this term's Kindermusik's class, Hayli knows that trains go "choo choo".

I thought a lot about my Grandpa Shaefer while we were at the train depot. Grandpa Shaefer was a great lover of trains, and even had his own model trains set up in his house! Missed you today Grandpa!

Last Day of Kindermusik

Today was our last day of Kindermusik, which means it was a day that the kids picked their favorite activities. Hayli loved the egg shakers...

and "Two In A Boat"...

and the music box song where Hayli throws herself on the floor and laughs... so silly!

Swimming Froggie Style!

Hayli really is a fish when she is in water. She is really growing with her Froggies swim classes.

Hayli likes to "dive" for the rings. She especially likes it when the teachers let her choose which ring she does next.

Hayli is learning to dive off the edge of the pool, swim back to the side of the pool, pull up, and take a breathe. She is doing amazingly well if you ask me!

Bath Time is Not Fun for Everyone!

Hana does not like bath time. Nobody likes to listen to a screaming baby, and Hana screamed from the time her body touched the water to the time she was dressed for bed...

Hayli, on-the-other-hand, loves bath time! Hayli will sit in the tub for an hour if you let her!

Open Gym

Thank goodness for Open Gym -- that is what I have to say. It gets Hayli's energy and frustrations out. I don't know what we would do without Open Gym!

I was sure that Hayli was going to hit her head on the metal framing of this trampoline, but lucky for me (and Hayli) she didn't!

Hana is 6 Weeks Old!!!

Our little Hana is 6 weeks old today. Quite amazing how the time is passing so quickly. This is probably because big sister Hayli keeps us very busy! Hana smiled at us for the first time today. She is already 10 pounds 13 ounces (according to our scale), which is 4.9045 kilograms. Hana is always looking around now and observing everything we do. She supports her head on her own, and has even figured out how to wiggle out of the cocoon that Mamo bought for her when she is awake! Hana's favorite place to be during waking hours is in mommy's or daddy's arms, but does like her swing a lot too! Daddy has the magic touch for tummy time, and for some reason Hana does not mind when he does it! I know I am forgetting a lot of things I want to put on this post, but I will just add it as I remember! LOL!

Calling Grandpa!

Hayli learned a long time ago how to use our videophone by simply pushing the redial button. Unfortunately for us, sometimes we didn't want to talk to the person we last spoke to. Lately, we have been teaching her how to call grandpa (not just using the redial button). Hayli loves pushing the buttons and finding grandpa!!!

Pushing the Limits

Hayli amazes me each and every day with what she can do. I think a lot of it comes from her fearlessness, our encouragement, and her determination. Here is one example of this...

I don't know what it was about today, but Hayli decided she needed to go down the slide with only one shoe on. Sometimes I would pay a lot of money to know what goes on inside that head of hers!
